Paris-Plage is a summer event created by the city of Paris in 2002.
Every year, between July and August, the banks of the river Seine and the square of the Hotel de Ville are transformed in an urban beach. A surface of about 3 kilometers is covered with sand and palms during about 4-5 weeks.
During this period a lot of activities, concerts and sport events are organized.
The visual effect is really impressive and a tourist who is not aware of the event would believe to a hallucination: Paris transformed in a beach!

An unusual atmosphere of holiday takes possession of the banks going from the Pont Henri IV to the Tuileries: swimming pools, beach volley tournaments, aqua gym courses, Latin American dancing courses, sand castles, games of bowls and so on.
Over the years the space dedicated to Paris Plage has increased and it includes todays several sites like the Saint Martin canal and the National Library.
You can stare at the sun or practice a lot of different activities like painting, reading, playing chess or listening to music.
